A Brief History

Mid Atlantic Capital Corporation was founded in the early 80’s and began its businesses as a registered broker/dealer and registered investment advisor. Over the next several years, we developed into a full service firm with offerings in brokerage, asset management, insurance, tax and estate planning, middle market investment banking, and consulting to healthcare providers.

By 1992, we organized Pennsylvania Capital Bank; a state chartered FDIC insured full-service bank offering services to high net worth individuals and business owners, and adopted the independent broker/dealer model, focusing exclusively on supporting financial professionals  via our broker/dealer, banking, and registered advisory operations.

Starting in 1995 with the formation of Mid Atlantic Institutional Shares, Inc., we began to support institutional financial clients, including trust companies, corporate and public treasury managers, investment managers, and retirement plan administrators.  This business grew alongside of our independent broker/dealer channel, and the synergies between these channels that were then developed have provided the basis for those we currently enjoy and now continue to build upon through the Mid Atlantic Trust Company.

Throughout the following decade, we dedicated ourselves to growing these businesses – divesting of those which were not compatible with our long term strategies, and focusing on those where we found our strengths.  Through the mid 2000’s we continued to add new services to our offerings, and solidified our mission as a support organization dedicated to serving a diverse group of financial professionals and organizations. In 2015 we completed the acquisition of Institutional Trading Services, LLC to strengthen our presence in trading and processing services for our bank trust and investment advisor clientele.

Most recently, in May, 2018 we completed a major transaction, partnering with Parthenon Capital Partners and Waterfall Asset Management, to access significant new capital and intellectual resources to continue our mission forward. Through this new partnership, Mid Atlantic:

  • Continues to aggressively invest further in state-of-the-art “client centric” tools and technologies.
  • Is further expanding and deepening our product and service offering
  • Will pursue focused strategic acquisitions designed to bring new and additional resources to serve our clients’ needs.

Today, we have grown to over $127 billion in assets under custody and administration, and over 265,000 brokerage and trust customer accounts.  We have traded as many as 2 billion equity shares annually and process over 1.8 million mutual fund trades on a monthly basis.  Yet we have managed to remain an agile, customer focused organization.  These will remain our priorities as we continue down our path of careful growth.
