Mid Atlantic held its 2019 National Partner Conference at the glorious JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort and Spa in Mexico. The setting helped to generate a relaxed vibe throughout the week with glorious food, fishing, a volleyball competition as well as multiple pools to enjoy! Despite these distractions, sessions were well attended and feedback was strong.
The three-day event took place May 14 – May 16 and included many impressive speakers, most notably a live-feed discussion by Dr. Alan Greenspan & Dr. Charles Lieberman, Advisors Capital Management entitled “A View from the Top.” Dr. Lieberman moderated the live discussion with the former Fed Chairman discussing macro issues affecting your clients and the world.

Although we cannot have a conference in Mexico every year, it was suggested that we return to this location again in the future! Mid Atlantic held its 2018 National Partner Conference at the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. Over two hundred executive level attendees participated in the three day event, which ran from May 15 – 17 and included a Masquerade Ball! Guests were also treated to the incredibly good food that is a staple in New Orleans.
The conference provided something for everyone, including Pat Woelfel from FirstTrust who delivered a riveting session called “Get LinkedIn” which discussed how to leverage the BIG 3: Attract Leads, Generate Referrals, and Prospect Smarter.
Another session entitled: “Economic and Market Outlook …. in an Volatile World” was presented by Dr. Claus te Wildt, Managing Director of Fidelity Investments. He discussed how to position your portfolio in light of an ever-changing world with increasingly complex geopolitical, economic and social issues.
Additionally, attendees were able to participate in one-on-one training sessions and demonstrations of some of the industry’s top technology platforms.

Mid Atlantic employees collect 4,257 items!
Last week, Mid Atlantic, in conjunction with loyal business partner Derek Fiorenza and his non-profit organization Fiorenza’s Food for Friends (F4), hosted its 3rd Annual Food Drive..
Staff were organized into three separate teams which enthusiastically came together to donate items such as canned tuna, canned fruit, beans, grains, pasta, and personal hygiene products. We saw a steady flow of donations up until the last day of the challenge, which is when things really heated up! Team members were racing out in a last minute push to win.
We are thrilled to report that Mid Atlantic employees raised a total of 4,257 items for our friends at the Oakland CHS Food Pantry. We are truly grateful to everyone involved for making the Mid Atlantic’s 3rd Annual Food Drive its most successful yet!
Recently, Mid Atlantic reached out to one of our newest registered representatives, David Loesch with the DRL Group, to learn more about his involvement with The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™. Mid Atlantic always likes to share with its family how our business partners go above and beyond their daily business to have a positive effect on the community.
The Houston Livestock Show™ has promoted the breeding and marketing of the livestock industry in the Texas Gulf Coast region. David Loesch got involved in 1997 because he wanted to give back to the community and in particular to the youth: “This Rodeo is much more than just a Rodeo, it is a vehicle for young people to shape their future.”
Each year, the Houston Livestock Show™ draws thousands of Texas 4-H and FFA exhibitors to compete. Each exhibitor works several months to prepare. Participants are between the ages of 9 and 18, are Texas residents and are members of a Texas 4-H Club or FFA Chapter. More than 750 scholarships are awarded. 1st place winners can be awarded as much as $36,000!
Mr. Loesch commented: “As you know, Texas is a large state! Last year only 330 animals made it to the judging. There is a lesson in the disappointment as well. The young people are involved in raising these animals. It teaches them discipline, respect, and commitment.”
A week-long celebration leading up to opening day of the Rodeo began on February 20. The rodeo itself will run from Feb. 27 – March 18, 2018. It is an impressive operation to say the least. Mr. Loesch hopes that the team at Mid Atlantic will get the opportunity to come and enjoy this experience!

In the process, attendees were taken on a trip back in time with a 1930s art deco theme! The three day event provided something for everyone, including Bruce Johnstone, Fidelity Investments Managing Director, treating audiences once again to his unique and entertaining perspective on present day economic and market conditions.
Also, Dr. Ben Sorenson of T. Rowe Price delivered a riveting session on how to gather information about clients and prospects through “tells” and develop the skills for response. Meanwhile, David Levine and George Sepsakos of the Groom Law Group tackled the current in-flux state of affairs regarding the DOL fiduciary rule. Additionally, attendees were able to participate in one-on-one training sessions and demonstrations of some of the industry’s top technology platforms by leading third party providers.

Over the course of seven business days, the Pittsburgh office was organized into three separate teams as staff enthusiastically came together in the spirit of service, teamwork, and competitive fun to donate items such as canned tuna, canned fruit, beans, grains, pasta, and personal hygiene products.
We are thrilled to report that employees raised over 2,800 items overall, which more than doubled last year’s tally! These donations were promptly picked up by the Oakland CHS Food Pantry for distribution to local area residents in need. We are truly grateful to everyone involved for making the Mid Atlantic Pittsburgh Office’s 2nd Annual Food Drive its most successful yet!
Recently, Mid Atlantic held its 2016 National Partner Conference at the elegant, award-winning Château Élan Winery & Resort in Braselton, Georgia. In addition, Mid Atlantic went “pedal to the metal” by undertaking a race car theme to help make this year’s conference a truly high octane event for all attendees!
Among this year’s featured presenters was Bruce Johnstone, Managing Director of Fidelity Investments. Bruce literally illustrated his take on current economic and market conditions by intertwining it with his famous cartoon drawings which proved to be quite a crowd pleaser! Meanwhile, Dr. Daniel Crosby, Executive Director of The Center of Outcomes, coached the audience on some of the finer points of behavioral finance, including how financial professionals can effectively communicate and fine tune their message so that it is easily recalled and stands out from competitors.

Derek Fiorenza is a Mid Atlantic business partner and retirement plan advisor with plans on the MATC platform. Last month, Mid Atlantic was proud to collaborate with Derek’s non-profit organization Fiorenza’s Food For Friends (F4) and the Community Human Services (CHS) food pantry in Pittsburgh to work toward stemming hunger in our nearby communities. In an effort to help offset the large decrease in donations that local pantries typically experience after the holiday season, the Pittsburgh office hosted its first ever Annual Food Drive.
To foster a friendly, competitive spirit and produce the most bountiful collection of food possible, the Pittsburgh office staff was organized into three separate teams and encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, peanut butter, individual snacks, juice boxes, and more.
The food drive contest took place during the course of a five-day work week and employees enthusiastically came together to demonstrate the philanthropy, generosity, team work, and competitive fun of one office as a whole. Altogether, over 1,300 food items were collected and then delivered the following week to assist hungry local residents in need.
We are sincerely thankful for everyone involved in making the Mid Atlantic 1st Annual Food Drive an outstanding success! We would also like to thank Derek Fiorenza for not only being a dedicated Mid Atlantic partner with the plan business he provides us, but also for his tireless efforts in the fight against hunger throughout the nation.
